Lumen team and Absorb team were two project teams in Burkeââ¬â¢s Polymers Department, which was one of three in CTD of CCE. Both Lumen and Absorb teams were under the same business situation, being confronted with companywide downsizing, and having similar responsibility, uniform size and form of the team. However, after two months of operation, results for the two teams turned out to be totally different in terms of the creativity, motivation level and performance. When teammates gave him valuable advices, he put them into his revised draft immediately which did foster team memberââ¬â¢s motivation and creativity. In addition, he expressed his own feelings of satisfaction regarding the high-quality work his team members did which enhanced team spirits, motivation, and confidence as well. On the contrary, Chip did a really poor work which gave rise to team relationship conflict and task conflict. For one thing, when Hector spent tons of time to produce a material sample, he was discouraged by Chipââ¬â¢s underestimation of his work. Consequently, that led to a relationship conflict. For another one, when two members advised Chip that there was no market opportunity for them with Composites, he refused them directly without any consideration. In a long-run, this would absolutely produce a negative impact on the entire teamwork and lead to the motivational loss. As a matter of fact, because of Chipââ¬â¢s unskilled leadership, complaints from his team member were accumulating in a way that it affected the whole team performance in a harmful way.
